Communication & recruiting compliance
(Last updated March 2026 — Division I women’s soccer coaching staff)
1. Statement of purpose and scope
1.1 Objective
This policy summarizes NCAA Bylaw 13 and institutional rules governing how women’s soccer staff communicate with prospective student-athletes (PSAs), enrolled student-athletes, parents or legal guardians, and athletics colleagues.
1.2 Scope
Applies to head and assistant coaches, directors of operations, volunteer coaches, and any staff who discuss enrollment, athletics aid, or roster decisions with PSAs or their families.
1.3 General principle
A contact is any face-to-face encounter with a PSA or family member where dialogue goes beyond a greeting (NCAA definition). Electronic messages, calls, and social media are separate limits but still count as recruiting activity. When unsure, contact Compliance before responding.
2. Prospective recruits (PSAs)
2.1 Calendar periods (women’s soccer, 2024–25)
- Contact period: Generally, any time not listed as a dead period—off-campus in-person contact and evaluations are permitted for eligible PSAs per NCAA calendar.
2.2 Before vs. after June 15 (sophomore year)
- Before June 15 after the PSA’s sophomore year: coaches may send camp/clinic information only; do not discuss recruiting, offers, or roster spots in reply to PSA-initiated messages unless permitted by NCAA legislation.
- On or after June 15: coaches may use private electronic correspondence (email, text, DM), recruiting materials, and telephone contact per NCAA class-year rules.
